Morning greetings
Today, as I biked away from my building's backyard
I was caught off guard
by the smile
that I was given as a present
perfect
and strong
woman holding her husband's arm, carrying his weight
and faith in a better next step by step
kept a cane in his hand, blind to the world
curled into himself in the empty space of the morning
mourning a future, as I passed by
their side
I tried
to say
"Good day"
but I only got to smile
as the words stayed
afraid
trapped in my chest
empty of treasures.
